Shellfish Aquaculture
OYSTER HATCHERY TECHNICIAN/ALGOLOGIST
KCB Oyster Holdings is located in Lottsburg, Virginia and produces oyster larvae and seed from January to September. This is a full-time seasonal job. Ideal candidates will have an interest in all aspects of oyster hatchery production, especially algae culture.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Algae culture
Spawning and larvae culture
Broodstock management and maintenance
Cultchless seed setting
Systems maintenance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Good work ethic and self-motivated
Ability to work variable hours including weekends in rotation
Ability to work independently and multi-task
Communicate effectively with other employees
Ability to perform record keeping and organize results
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior hatchery experience
Ability to adaptively manage
Problem solving/troubleshooting skills
Interest in seawater chemistry and oyster breeding
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary negotiable
