Academia Panelist: Erin J. Burge
Erin J. Burge (PhD 2003) is a Professor of Marine Science at Coastal Carolina University (CCU), near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He has been on the faculty at CCU since 2006, and maintains appointments as associated faculty in the master's and PhD programs in Coastal Marine Systems Science at CCU and the Graduate Program in Marine Biology at the College of Charleston. After graduation from William & Mary/VIMS, he was a postdoctoral research associate for the Grice Marine Laboratory (College of Charleston) and NCCOS Hollings Marine Laboratory in Charleston, South Carolina from 2004 to 2006. His undergraduate degree is in biology from the University of Kentucky.
At CCU Erin's teaching includes lecture and laboratory courses in marine biology, diseases and parasites of aquatic organisms, and an annual research-intensive study abroad program to Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory (University of the West Indies) in Jamaica. His lab focuses on the use of molecular tools to examine host-parasite relationships and the application of microbial source tracking tools for water quality work in coastal South Carolina. He is a contributor to Explore.org's SharkCam, a live streaming underwater webcam attached to the base of Frying Pan Tower, 35 miles off the coast of North Carolina.
Entrepreneur Panelist: Pete De Lisle
Pete is Technical Director and President of Coastal Bioanalysts, Inc. located in Gloucester, VA. Pete has a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the College of William and Mary and a Ph.D. in Marine Science from the School of Marine Science, College of William and Mary. He has over 34 years of experience in the area of aquatic toxicology. Professional Memberships include the Water Environment Federation, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, ASTM Subcommittee E-47.01 on Aquatic Assessment and Toxicology, and The NELAC Institute.
