Administrative Support
The Outstanding Employee awards are chosen by nominations received by the Awards Committee from all faculty, staff, and students at VIMS. They are awarded in the categories of Facilities/Safety/Trades, Research and Advisory Service, Technical Support, and Administrative Support.
The winner of the 2012 Outstanding Employee for Administrative Support is Ms. Connie Motley.
Connie Motley has been a dedicated VIMS employee for nearly 25 years. She started at VIMS in 1988 as a Fisheries Lab Aide and four years later, in 1992, moved to the Office of Sponsored Programs where she continues to excel. Connie plays a critical role in the Institute’s research mission, ensuring that grants and contracts are executed with the utmost professionalism and integrity. Connie’s warm personality and dedication to a job done right make her a joy to work with. No matter how busy, she always has time to answer a question or help prepare or administer a grant. She juggles countless grants at any given time and always ensures that deadlines are met and that grant applications contain all required information.
Connie’s is known Institute-wide as our NSF expert, having submitted 770 proposals to the National Science Foundation in the 13 years since taking over administration of NSF grants! Overall, she has administered more than 700 grants and stood guard over more than $52 million in grant and contract funding. Connie’s positive attitude and helpful nature provide the calming reassurance researchers need to survive proposal deadlines and site-visits by funding agencies. It is hard to imagine Sponsored Programs, or VIMS, without her!
Congratulations, Connie!
