Mission
The Department of Facilities Management
- Maintains and keeps operational the campus facilities and grounds;
- Plans for the renovation of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities; and
- Ensures that the campus physical environment is safe and enhances the efforts of the faculty, staff, and students.
Scope
The Gloucester Point campus occupies 42.33 acres; the Wachapreague campus occupies 4.89 acres. The Institute also owns an additional 30.58 acres in Gloucester County consisting of Oak Island (30 acres) and Sarah's Creek (.58 acres). The Gloucester Point campus is home to 68 buildings encompassing 338,892 square feet. The Wachapreague campus is home to 24 buildings encompassing 34,026 square feet. Services
The Department performs the following functions in support of its mission:
- Provide, maintain, and repair utility services and building mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Maintain the structure, architectural finishes, and appurtenances of facilities and the surrounding grounds and landscape features.
- Provide custodial services and support for special functions to ensure a clean environment for faculty, staff, and students.
- Assure a safe environment and maintain an effective emergency preparedness plan for fires, floods, power outages, and other disasters.
- Coordinate the campus facility short- and long-term planning as well as developing and managing capital improvement projects.
- Develop and manage an effective maintenance reserve plan for the repair and replacement of the campus facilities and infrastructure.
- Initiate, develop, and manage energy-conservation procedures and projects to achieve continued reductions in energy usage on campus.
- Provide special services to the campus community such as key control, vehicle fleet management, recycling, and security.
